We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and יְיָ freed us from Egypt with a mighty hand. Had not the Holy One, who is to be praised, delivered our people from Egypt, then we, our children, and our children's children would still be enslaved.

From Exodus: So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites and worked them ruthlessly. They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.

The time the Israelites remained in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. At the end fo the four hundred and thirtieth year, to the very day, all the hosts of יְיָ departed from the land of Egypt. That same night is the watch-night of יְיָ for the children of Israel, through all generations.
