We begin the Passover holiday with lighting the candles. As we light the candles we leave the ordinary routine of our daily life and enter this special celebration of our ancestors and the freedoms we enjoy today.

Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu melech ha'olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav, v'tzivanu l'hadlik ner shel Yom Tov.

Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Definer of the Universe,
who has sanctified us with laws and commanded us to celebrate the creation of lights.
