The shehecheyanu blessing is recited, in addition to the regular blessing, whenever doing something for the first time that year and to mark joyous occasions. Although tonight is technically the second seder or second night of Passover, I would like to share the shehecheyanu with you. This shehecheyanu is for me, leading my first holiday, making my first matzah balls on my own and being a seder leader. This shehecheyanu is for you, for joining me tonight, for celebrating with this group of people for the first time, for your first Passover ever, or your first seder of this year.

Barukh atah Adonai eloheynu melekh ha’olam shehechiyanu v’key’manu v’higiyanu, laz’man hazeh.

Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of all, who has kept us alive, sustained us, and brought us to this season.
