As we consider the orange on the Seder plate, let us take a moment to reflect on ways that we essentialize others. Have we-- explictly or implictly-- limited a culture or a gender or a people in our beliefs or in our actions? Have we innocuously believed a single narrative about someone without taking the time to examine our own bias? The orange on the Seder plate symbolizes so much more than women and LGBTQ individuals in Judaism. We were once the stranger. How are we now treating the stranger in our comtemporary lives?
