Lighting the Candles

We start with the lighting of the candles, symbolizing the joy which Passover and Shabba, brings into the Jewish home. Let's all recite blessing together:

BORUCH ATTO ADONOI ELOHENU MELECH HO‘OLOM ASHER KIDD’SHONU B’MITZVOSOV V’TZIVONU L’HADLIK NER SHEL (on Sabbath add: SHABBAT V’SHEL) YOM TOV.

BORUCH ATTO ADONOI ELOHENU MELECH HO‘OLOM SHEHEḤEYONU V’KIY’MONU V’HIGIONU LAZMAN HAZZEH.

Praised art Thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe, who hast sanctified us by Thy commandments, and hast commanded us to kindle the Sabbath and festival lights.

Praised art Thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe, who hast kept us alive and sustained us and brought us to this season. (Which frankly would be appropriate to say on a daily basis but we don't make the rules).

May everyone here have health and happiness on this holiday and throughout the year.
Amen.
