One of the blessings of Atlanta is our beautiful trees.  During this Spring holiday, we look outside and see the city in bloom.  The cost of that abundant beauty of Spring is the hgh pollen count that triggers many of our allergies.  The green vegetable is an appetizer, meant in part to sate our appetite as we prepare to tell the story.  The delicious green vegetable is dipped in salt water, to remind us of the tears our ancestors shed in the harshness of slavery, contrasted with the beauty of the spring holiday.

Take a green vegetable, a small amount at first, but more is permitted to sate the appetite!  Dip it in salt water, and recite

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם בּוֹרֵא פְּרִי הָאֲדָמָה:

Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech Ha-Olam, Borei P'ri Ha-adamah

Blessed are You Adonai, Ruler of the Universe, who created the fruit of the earth
