Parsley and salt water are an unusual combination. In fact, it is the strangeness of this combination itself that we are trying to draw upon, to encourage children to ask questions. Yet we can learn a deeper lesson from these warring tastes. Sometimes we keep aspects of our lives that harm us-- whether that be people, grudges, old habits, etc. Not everything goes well together, be it relationships, old and new perceptions of ourselves, or foods. Karpas reminds us to re-evaluate what does and doesn't go well together in our lives-- and to rid ourselves of those things if we wish to rid ourselves of bitterness.
