Before the start of the Passover meal, every member of the family gets up to wash his or her hands twice. Washing with water has great symbolic meaning of purity and cleansing.

When we are baptized, we are washed clean of our sins. Later in the temple we are washed and anointed to become free from the sins of the world. As we follow Christ, our impurities wash away as we become more like him.
