The small piece of matzah represents the part of reality that we can see. We hide the bigger piece of matzah because it represents the part of reality that we cannot see or understand. In the seder we talk about exile, struggle and redemption, things that we see and experience in this world. But in reality, this whole world is our opportunity to try and access the big piece or picture, why we are here, what is our purpose, etc. The hidden half will then be revealed, when we move past our small selves (egos) and elevate our souls.
