The tradition passed down says in ancient times we were slaves in Egypt. Pharoah, king of Egypt, ruled the land with an iron fist. We cried out for help and behold our cry was answered. The land brought 10 plagues upon our oppressors. We escaped in haste and we used all we had, matzah, for energy to embark on the journey out of the land of our oppressors. The sea of reeds parted and we crossed on dry land. We wandered 40 years in the desert while we prepared to enter the land of Israel. We ate manna and then there at Har Sinai we received the Torah.
