Reader: When Moses went to Egypt he went and asked Pharaoh to let them go.

  1. All:
  2. When Israel was in Egypt’s land,
    Let My people go!
Oppressed so hard they could not stand,
    Let My people go!
    • Refrain:
      Go down, Moses,
      Way down in Egypt’s land;
      Tell old Pharaoh
      To let My people go!
  3. No more shall they in bondage toil,
    Let My people go!
Let them come out with Egypt’s spoil,
    Let My people go!
  4. Oh, let us all from bondage flee,
    Let My people go!
And let us all in Christ be free,
    Let My people go!
  5. You need not always weep and mourn,
    Let My people go!
And wear these slav’ry chains forlorn,
    Let My people go!
  6. Your foes shall not before you stand,
    Let My people go!
And you’ll possess fair Canaan’s land,
    Let My people go!

Reader: When Pharaoh did not God sent ten plagues onto the Egyptians.

Reader: The plagues are what brought us our of Egypt but we regret that freedom came at the cost of the suffering of the Egyptians. We take a drop of wine/juice for each plague to show our sadness.

Dip a finger or a spoon into your wine/juice for a drop for each plague.

Reader: These are the ten plagues which God brought down on the Egyptians:

Blood | dam | דָּם

Frogs | tzfardeiya |  צְפַרְדֵּֽעַ

Lice | kinim | כִּנִּים

Beasts | arov | עָרוֹב

Cattle disease | dever | דֶּֽבֶר

Boils | sh’chin | שְׁחִין

Hail | barad | בָּרָד

Locusts | arbeh | אַרְבֶּה

Darkness | choshech | חֹֽשֶׁךְ

Death of the Firstborn | makat b’chorot | מַכַּת בְּכוֹרוֹת

Reader: After each plague Pharaoh told the Israelites to leave but before they could go he changed his mind. Finally God told Moses of the last plague. He said he would kill the first born son in each Egyptian family. In order for their children to not be killed the Israelites had to kill a lamb and spread its blood over their door. After this plague Pharaoh told Moses to leave and so the Israelites left quickly without even waiting for their bread to rise.
