The idea for this came from an article by Abigail Pogrebin. Her grandfather Joe Cottin, was a friend of my father when I was in Hebrew school, a few years behind her mother Letty.

On the 3X5 card you've got under your plate, write down the 2 questions - on on each side and with their answers- This is private- for you alone- no one is going to know what you write.

Write down "This is the way in which I feel free:" _______________________

And on the opposite side: "This is the way I am not free:I am a slave to...____________________

Rabbi Arthur Green said, “Whatever it is that constricts you or enslaves you, you have to ask, ‘What is holding me back, what is my inner slavery? What keeps me from being in touch with the deepest parts of myself, with the presence of God in myself, and how do I liberate myself from it?’”

When you're finished write down how you are going to free yourself of of your self-imposed slavery.

Now self-address your envelope, insert your private answers and seal the envelope. Next year, God-willing, I will be mailing your cards back to each of you a few days before Pesach. You will see what your responses were this year. Youcan think about whether you would answer in the same way and more importantly, why you did or did not set yourself free- or at least stay on the path toward freedom.
