Seder Plate

The items on the Seder Plate actually tell the story of Passover....

On the Seder Plate

  • Maror and Chazeret.  Horseradish and bitter lettuce. Bitter herbs remind us of the bitterness of slavery
  • Charoset.  A sweet paste of apples and nuts to resemble clay, the mortar for the bricks when building pharoah's monuments. sweet to remind us that the Israelites had hope and faith for a better day.
  • Karpas.  Green vegetables. Reminds us of springtime and the flourishing of the Israelites when they reached Israel
  • Zeroah.   Roasted bone represents the lamb that was sacrificed in ancient times
  • Beitzah.  The roasted egg is a symbol of ancient sacrifies as well as new beginnings and rebirth
  • Three Matzot.
  • Salt water.

Later during the full seder we partake in eating the charoset with horseradish and make a Hillel sandwich with the matzah... yum...a favorite of mine.....

We now have all experienced living during a pandemic.... it adds to our oen stories of having freedoms taken away and what it wiill be like when we regain these precious freedoms.

What other symbols might you want to add to your Seder Plates this year?

We are adding our vaccine cards... our story now includes COVID.

We add an orange to represent all that are marginalized in our society and a committemnt that we'll work to include all.

Anybody want to add something to this list?
