The Torah commands that we we be good to strangers since we were once strangers in the land of Israel. Modernity under capitalism have isolated us from communities reducing us to consumers and creating a false scarcity that frames strangers as enemies rather than comrades. The troubles of today have forced us to reject the notion that strangers are our enemies and rely staunchly on the kindness of strangers. No matter how hard times get they can always get harder if we are alone and as such we take this opportunity to honor the kindness we have recieved from strangers and to reocmmit oursleves to helping others whenever we are able.

Baruch atah A-donay, Eloheinu Melech Ha'Olam borei pri hagafen.

Blessed are you Adonai, our God, Ruler of the universe, who creates the furuit of the vine.
