Passover Hopscotch

Passover Hopscotch

Make a hopscotch grid outside with sidewalk chalk or inside with masking tape. Create 15 sections, and label each with a number and description for the 15 parts of the seder as directed below.

Give each child a plastic frog or other marker and let them go through the grid, tossing their frogs on each section in order and pantomiming the activity described while standing in the numbered section. 

1. WINE BLESSINGS.

Pretend to hold a cup and say a blessing, then taste the sweet juice:

Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech haolam, borei p'ri hagafen.

2. WASH YOUR HANDS.

Pretend to wash your hands.

3. DIP GREENS IN SALT WATER.

Pretend to dip something small in a dip and then munch it with a crunch.

4. BREAK MIDDLE MATZAH.

Pretend to break matzah and put a piece in your pocket, called the  afikoman .

5. OPEN THE  HAGGADAH.

Pretend to open a book, share one thing you know about Passover or its story, and ask one question about Passover.

6. WASH HANDS AGAIN.

Pretend to wash hands and this time say (or read) the blessing:

Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech haolam, asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu al netilat yadayim.

7. SAY  HA-MOTZI.

Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech haolam, Hamotzi lechem min haaretz.

8. EAT A PIECE OF MATZAH.

Pretend to eat something crunchy and crumbly.

9. TASTE BITTER HERBS.

Make a face like you just tasted something bitter.

10. MAKE A HILLEL SANDWICH.

Pretend to scoop two toppings onto a matzah cracker and take a bite.

11. The Meal is Served.

Name your favorite Passover food. Say, "My compliments to the chef!"

12. TAKE THE  AFIKOMAN  FROM YOUR POCKET.

Pretend to have a bite for dessert.

13. GRACE AFTER THE MEAL.

Say "thank you" to acknowledge having plenty of food to eat.

14. SING A FAVORITE HAPPY SONG.

Or learn a Passover song.

15. THIS CONCLUDES THE SEDER.

Say, "Next year in Jerusalem!"

Seder means "order," and each of the 15 steps of the seder is done in a specific order. You've just done a five-minute seder!
