Maror

MAROR--Why do we eat maror?
Tradition says that this bitter herb is to remind us of the time of our slavery.  We may put the bitter herbs inside two piece of Matzah to reduce the pain:

Prayer over the Maror

Baruch atah Adonai Eloheinu melech ha-olam, asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu al achilat maror.

Praised are you, Adonai, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who has taught us the way of holiness through commandments, commanding us to eat the bitter herb.
