We dedicate this evening to the idea that all people deserve a homeland where they may be free from poverty, fear, bigotry, discrimination and the ravages of war. As a sign of hospitality we open the door.

[Open the door]

The matzah is the bread of poverty. Let all who are hungry come and eat. So many people around the world are still enslaved. By next year, may they all be free.

The tale of Jewish people's first quest for freedom from slavery in Egypt was written so long ago that no one knows how much of it is fact and how much is fiction. Like all good stories, however, it has lessons for us to think about. The telling of the story is framed with the 4 questions, which reminds us to continue to question and learn throughout our lives, to seek knowledge and growth.
