Before the start of every Shabbath or Jewish holiday, it is tradition for the women of the household to light two candles in honour of the holiness of the day.

Barukh Atah Adonay Eloheynu Melekh ha-Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu l'hadlik neyr shel (Shabbat v'shel) Yom Tov.
