In Every Generation:

In every generation it is the duty of each of us to imagine that it is we - we ourselves- who were saved from the bondage of Egypt.  It is important to understand that it was not just the Jews of pharaoh’s time that were liberated from slavery, but all future generations to come.

It is also important to recognize the continuous fight for survival that our people have waged over the generations up until the present day.  We have endured and overcome persecution

from the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Greeks, the Romans, in the middle ages, during the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, pogroms in Russia, and, of course, the holocaust. We are still subject to persecution today in parts of the Middle East, in Europe, and right here in the United States of America.

Over the centuries, millions have given their lives just because they called themselves Jews.

We owe it to them, to our martyrs, and to the first Jews who made it out of Egypt to not forget.  To continue to tell our story at Passover, to embrace our history, and to fight for rights and freedom for all peoples, regardless of race, color, ethnicity or sexual orientation.  L’Chaim.
