Four times during the seder we raise our cup of wine or grape juice and say a blessing before we drink it. Wine marks special celebrations when we feel glad and grateful for good things that have happened to us. The seder is an extra special one of those nights.  With this first cup, we add blessings that describe Passover as a gift—a time to celebrate being free.
