The plagues and our subsequent redemption from Egypt are but one example of the care God has shown for us in our history. Had God but done any one of these kindnesses, it would have been sufficient – dayenu.

If He had only brought us out of Egypt, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only executed justice upon the Egyptians, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only executed justice upon their gods, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only slain their first-born, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only given to us their health and wealth, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!

If He had only split the sea for us, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only led us through on dry land, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only drowned our oppressors, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only provided for our needs in the wilderness for 40 years, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only fed us manna, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!

If He had only given us Shabbat, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only led us to Mount Sinai, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only given us the Torah, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only brought us into the Land of Israel, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!
If He had only built the Temple for us, it would have been sufficient. Dayenu!

For all of these things, alone and together, we are thankful. Dayenu! Dayenu!

Dayenu reminds us that each of our lives is the cumulative result of many blessings, small and large.
