There are three pieces of matzah on our table tonight. We will take one of them now and break it in half. Half of it we will hide away, to remind us of those who do not always have enough food and dare not eat without setting some food aside for their next meal. We break our own matzah to remind us that we must set aside some of our own food for those who go hungry today.

This is the bread of poverty and affliction that our ancestors ate in the land of Egypt. Let all who are hungry come and eat with us. Let all who are in need come and share a meal. This year we are here. Next year may we all be together. This year we live with oppression. Next year may we all be free.
