To the Tune of Both Sides Now

in honor of those who resisted in Charlottesville Virginia

With Apologies to Joni Mitchell

Minyans full of open hearts

Dreams for all, brand new starts

Free to pray and live our parts

I saw us all that way

But now the fights all start within

The Politicians lie and spin

And judging others by their skin

Leading us astray

I’ve looked at us from both sides now

From in and out and still somehow

America was freedom’s call

I really don’t know us, at all….

Seder songs and Morning Prayer

Candles lit and gelt to share

Sabbath peace and Parent’s care

I’ve looked at Jews that way

But care we must for those in need

Fight the hate, oppose the greed

We cannot rest ‘til all are freed

Jews must do more today

I’ve looked at us from both sides now

From in and out and still somehow

The Tzadik in us must not fall,

We really don’t know us, at all….

Hunger pains and sunken eyes

Trembling earth and flaming skies

Illness, death and children’s cries

I’ve looked at God that way

But in Shechinah comfort glows

Family, friends and love all flows

The flowers bloom, the spirit grows

Earth breathes new life each day

We can all choose what we become

To save the world for everyone

For good and bad the Shofars call

We’re learning how to love, us all….
