Laurie Shapiro is an artist based in Los Angeles.  Best known for her immersive painted tapestry caves, Shapiro's process involves mixed media painting.  Her inspiration often comes from the natural world.  A signature in her work is her repetitive screen printed floral drawings.  Shapiro creates these drawings on her outdoor adventures, where she immerses in plant life.

Shapiro has a BFA from Carnegie Mellon (2012), and spent a semester at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey (2011).  Over the past two years, she has had three solo shows in Los Angeles, and completed two installation commissions for immersive museums.  Her work can be further seen at LaurieShapiroArt.com

"There is a Crack in Everything," is a large-scale mixed media painting - a composition which came to Shapiro's mind while walking through the woods in Marin County, CA.  Having entered a trance state, images of Shapiro's ancestors came to mind - Jews who had walked through woods searching for new lives.
