It is customary in a Passover seder to dedicate each cup of wine to a different person significant to the Jewish people. Throughout history, the works of Jews of color, Jewish Women, Disabled Jews, and LGBTQ+ Jews have often been overlooked. We will be dedicating each cup to Jewish people who normally go unrecognized. Our first cup is being dedicated to the work and life of Betty Friedan. Friedan was a strong Jewish woman who authored the novel The Feminine Mystique. Her work inspired the start of second-wave feminism. As President and founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), Friedan pioneered the Equal Rights Amendment, fought for reproductive rights and worked on women's employment.

“In almost every professional field, in business and in the arts and sciences, women are still treated as second-class citizens. It would be a great service to tell girls who plan to work in society to expect this subtle, uncomfortable discrimination--tell them not to be quiet, and hope it will go away, but fight it. A girl should not expect special privileges because of her sex, but neither should she "adjust" to prejudice and discrimination”
